Animal Hospital Accessibility Guide
Comfort settings for flashing lights, icons, and the low-Sanity effect

🎛️ What You Can Actually Change
Added in Harlow's Favorite Update (July 2026). Three accessibility features exist in-game: reduced flashing lights, a class visual refresh, and high-contrast 2D icons. One effect — the low Sanity visual — cannot be turned off.
1. Reduced Flashing Lights Mode
The main toggle for photosensitive players.
The Reduced Flashing Lights option lowers the intensity and frequency of strobe-style effects across the game: anomaly teleport flashes, the Death Ritual candle flicker, Deployable Camera flashes, and the harshest screen pulses.
Important Caveats
- It reduces, not removes, flashing — the horror mood is intentionally kept.
- Anomaly spawn flashes are softened but the audio stingers remain unchanged.
- The setting is per-account and persists across shifts.
2. Low Sanity Visual Effect
Not toggleable — managed through gameplay.
When your Sanity drops low, the screen darkens with a vignette, grain, and subtle distortion. This effect is a core gameplay warning and cannot be disabled in any menu.
Ways to Keep It Away
- Stay near active light sources — darkness is the main Sanity drain.
- Avoid eye contact with the Black Bunny and other gaze anomalies.
- Drink coffee or equip the Psychologist recovery buffs.
- Heads up: the Psychologist class doubles Sanity fluctuation — if you are photosensitive, pick another class.
3. High-Contrast 2D Icons
Colorblind-friendly by design.
The July 2026 visual refresh replaced iconography with flat 2D icons that distinguish by shape, not just color. Treatment tools — shots, ointments, pills, and scanners — are now clearly different at a glance, which dramatically helps players with color vision deficiency.
This also speeds up quick-slot decisions under pressure, since you no longer need to read the tooltip to confirm which consumable you grabbed.
What's Still Missing
Being transparent about current limitations.
Known Gaps (as of July 2026)
- No subtitles or closed captions. Audio carries key information — the Death Ritual chant, anomaly footsteps, heartbeat monitors.
- No separate audio sliders for music vs. SFX vs. voice lines.
- No fullscreen flash filter beyond the reduced mode.
Roblox's own client accessibility settings (contrast, brightness, and camera shake) can be layered on top of the in-game options for extra comfort.
Accessibility FAQ
Is there a reduced flashing lights mode in Animal Hospital?
Yes. Open the in-game Settings and toggle 'Reduced Flashing Lights' to ON. This softens strobe-heavy jumpscares, lightning during rain shifts, and medical scanner flares.
How do I turn on 2D item icons?
Under Settings, look for the '2D Icons' toggle. When enabled, it replaces the 3D rotating items in your inventory with high-contrast 2D flat icons that are easier to read and recognize quickly.
Can you turn off the low Sanity blur effect?
No. The chromatic aberration and edge blur at low Sanity are intentional core horror mechanics. If the effect bothers you, keep your Sanity above 40% with Coffee ($30) or Chocolate ($20).
Are subtitles available in Animal Hospital?
Yes. Audio cues for monster movements, patient cries, and emergency announcements have visual text captions that appear at the bottom-center of the screen when Subtitles are turned ON.
