Coffee Respawn Timer (150s Cooldown)
The reception office coffee machine does not restock instantly. Once you take a cup, the machine goes on roughly a 150-second cooldown (about 2.5 minutes) before the next cup appears. The countdown is per machine, not shared across floors, and every new shift resets the stock.
Why this matters
If you grab coffee first thing and your sanity later crashes (e.g. down to 2% while trying to save Barney), the machine may still have 90+ seconds left — too long to wait when every second counts.
How to plan around it
Grab your cup early, keep the second cup guarding the Head Banger event, and do not rely on the machine for mid-shift emergencies. Instead, rotate between coffee, lockers, and paid items.
Emergency Sanity Backup When Coffee Is on Cooldown
Keep a Chocolate Bar in Stock
The Chocolate Bar ($120) restores 60 sanity in seconds — 4x more than a full cup of coffee and with no cooldown. It is the single best emergency save when your sanity hits single digits and you are mid-rescue (for example, saving Barney from a sanity collapse). Keep at least one in your inventory from Shift 4 onward.
Check Floor Lockers First
Floor 1 break room lockers can hold free Coffee or Chocolate Bars and respawn each shift. On a cooldown, a locker is often faster than waiting out the machine — check them the moment you need sanity back.
Rotate Machines & Gifts
If you play co-op, split the cups: have a teammate grab the floor's second machine. Mint Tea ($100) is a slower regen option, and playing the Psychologist class doubles the sanity you recover from every single sip.
Where to Get Coffee
Reception Office (Free)
The coffee machine in the reception office is completely free. Grab a cup at the start of every shift before heading to the front desk. Note the machine has a ~150-second cooldown — so take your cup early each shift rather than relying on it mid-shift.
Vending Machines
Coffee is sometimes available from vending machines as a paid option, but there is no reason to buy it when the reception office gives it away free.
Lockers
Floor 1 break room locker sometimes contains a Coffee or Chocolate Bar. Check it early in each shift.
How to Use Coffee
Sanity Recovery
Each sip restores 5 sanity. 3 sips per cup = 15 total sanity restored. Drink it proactively when your sanity drops below 70%.
Head Banger Counter
Brew coffee, take two sips, and bring it to the check-in window. Use the E prompt to offer it. The Head Banger drinks it and leaves peacefully.
Tips
- Always grab a coffee before your first check-in. Free sanity insurance.
- Respect the ~150-second machine cooldown — never treat coffee as an instant panic button.
- Carry one Chocolate Bar as your true emergency save for single-digit sanity.
- Save one coffee specifically for Head Banger events. It saves your shutters.
- Chocolate Bar ($120) is 4x more effective but costs money. Use Coffee for daily needs.
- Grab fresh coffee every shift. It disappears at shift end.
