The One Rule

Do not look at it. The Black Bunny is completely harmless as long as you break eye contact. Every tactic below exists to help you avoid staring — nothing in the game can banish it.

🐰

What Is the Black Bunny?

A pitch-black rabbit with a fixed, unsettling grin.

The Black Bunny is a rare hallway anomaly that appears as a fully black rabbit silhouette with two small white eyes and a wide, frozen smile. Unlike most anomalies it never chases you, never attacks, and never touches your patients — its only weapon is your own curiosity.

It spawns in hallways and at corridor corners from the very first shift, and can appear during any subsequent shift. Many players mistake it for an ambient prop or a pet and stop to look — that is exactly when it strikes.

The Eye-Contact Sanity Drain

The smile is a lure. Staring is the trap.

Once the Black Bunny is in your field of view, a Sanity drain timer begins. After roughly 2 seconds of direct eye contact, your Sanity drops in chunks of 3–5%. The drain ticks repeatedly the longer you hold your gaze.

Key Mechanics

  • The moment you turn away, the drain stops instantly.
  • The rabbit stays where it is — it will never walk toward you or block your path.
  • Multiple players can each lose Sanity simultaneously if the whole team stares at it.
  • Low Sanity stacks with other effects, so a bunny drain can be the push that triggers Psychologist blackouts.

Why Weapons & Flashlights Don't Work

Every tool fails — and that is the point.

Unlike the Stalker, which can be interrupted with a Taser, the Black Bunny is completely immune to every item in the game:

  • Taser & Gun: no stun, no knockback, no hit registration.
  • Melee weapons: pass straight through it.
  • Flashlight: it is immune to light, unlike shadow-based entities — the beam does not shrink, dispel, or reveal anything.
  • Maple Syrup / other consumables: no interaction prompt exists.

Use the equipment counter table to confirm which anomalies a Taser actually works on — the Black Bunny is deliberately not one of them.

Survival Tactics

Three habits that make you immune to the bunny.

Do This

  • Scan corridors with your camera. Treat every corner as a possible spawn — if you spot the grin early you have time to react.
  • Turn away and sprint past. Break line of sight for a full second before passing it. The drain resets the instant it leaves your view.
  • Call it out in voice chat. "Bunny at the east corridor" lets teammates avoid a shared Sanity hit.
  • Rely on sound + minimap. You never need to look directly at it to know where to walk.

Don't Do This

  • Don't stop to admire it. The longer you hold the gaze, the more Sanity chunks you lose.
  • Don't try to heal or interact with it. It is an anomaly, not a patient.
  • Don't form a staring squad. Whole-team eye contact can drain the entire lobby simultaneously.
  • Don't burn Taser charges on it. Save them for the Stalker, which actually reacts to being stunned.

Black Bunny FAQ

How do you survive the Black Bunny in Animal Hospital?

Never make eye contact. The Black Bunny appears in hallways every shift and drains 3–5% Sanity for every ~2 seconds you look directly at it. Look away from the rabbit and simply walk or sprint past it — it will not chase or attack you.

Do weapons or the flashlight work on the Black Bunny?

No. The Taser, Gun, melee weapons, and flashlight are all completely ineffective against the Black Bunny. It cannot be stunned, damaged, or scared away, so do not waste equipment charges trying to fight it.

Can you treat the Black Bunny like a patient?

No. The Black Bunny is an anomaly, not a patient, and it will never appear on your patient list or on a bed. Do not attempt to heal, interact with, or follow it — the only correct response is to break eye contact and move away.

Is the Black Bunny the same as the Stalker?

No. The Stalker follows you across rooms and drains Sanity faster with sustained eye contact, while the Black Bunny only appears in hallways and stops draining you the moment you look away. The Stalker can be stunned with a Taser; the Black Bunny cannot be affected by any item.
