Both items matter: coffee is free but gated by a ~150-second machine cooldown, while chocolate costs cash and works instantly. A typical loadout carries coffee for routine upkeep and one chocolate bar that never gets eaten unless sanity hits single digits.
How to Use Chocolate
Emergency Save
Eat it when your sanity is crashing during an event and you cannot safely walk to the reception office. Three bites restore 60 sanity almost instantly.
Cooldown Cover
When the coffee machine still has 90+ seconds left, chocolate is the only fast option. Check the Floor 1 lockers first — they sometimes hold a free bar.
Late-Shift Insurance
From Shift 4 the sanity drain spikes. Buy one bar per shift as insurance even if you never eat it.
Psychologist Synergy
Psychologist doubles recovery from every bite, turning one bar into the largest sanity swing in the game.
