Quick Reference
Four states, four timers, four first moves.
1. Fainted
60-second timer
A Fainted patient has collapsed and cannot move on their own.
- Timer: 60 seconds.
- First move: Pick them up and carry them to a bed.
- Risk: Letting the timer expire fails the rescue.
2. Patient on Fire
60-second timer
A patient who has caught fire is in immediate danger and must be dealt with fast.
- Timer: 60 seconds.
- First move: Extinguish the flames before treating anything else.
- Risk: Fire spreads panic and drains your sanity fast.
3. Critical
120-second timer
A Critical patient is the longest and most urgent non-fire state.
- Timer: 120 seconds.
- First move: Stabilize them to move them into recovery.
- Risk: Missing the window loses the patient entirely.
4. Suspicious
Verify before you trust
A Suspicious patient may not be a patient at all. Some threats disguise themselves among the crowd.
- Timer: None until verified, but danger is constant.
- First move: Run the proper checks to confirm they are a real patient.
- Risk: Treating a disguised threat wastes time and sanity.
Bonus: The Recovery Stage
After treatment — no timer, stay alert
Once a patient is stabilized, they enter the recovery stage. They are no longer your responsibility and will leave on their own — but the stage is not always quiet.
- Duration: Roughly 30-40 seconds after treatment, a recovered patient rises and leaves the bed automatically.
- No input needed: You never have to escort a recovering patient — just keep an eye on them.
- Warning:Some players report recovering patients muttering odd phrases (like "I'm hungry..."). If you hear suspicious chatter from a "recovering" patient, run one more visual or photo check before trusting them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What patient states exist in Animal Hospital?
There are four states: Fainted (60s, carry to a bed), Patient on Fire (60s, extinguish), Critical (120s, stabilize to recovery), and Suspicious (verify the patient is not a threat via checks).
How long is the Critical patient timer?
A Critical patient has a 120-second timer. You must stabilize them to move them into recovery before that window closes, or they are lost.
What is the rule for a Fainted patient?
A Fainted patient has a 60-second timer. Pick them up and carry them to a bed before the timer expires. Leaving them on the floor risks the shift failing.
How long does it take for a patient to recover?
After you stabilize a patient, they enter the recovery stage for roughly 30-40 seconds, then rise and leave the bed automatically. No interaction is needed, but keep watching — recovering patients have been reported muttering odd phrases right before a threat shows itself.
